In the future, as more support policies are implemented, pig production and supply will be more secure. Experts said that some pig farms' pigs that had been stalled in the early stages began to be listed on the market. In addition, commercial reserves, government reserves and increased imports of pork will be released one after another. It is expected that the supply and demand of pork will be stable during the Spring Festival.

More support measures to accelerate implementation

How to solve the problems that farmers did not dare to raise, can't raise, or refuse to raise? Yang Zhenhai, director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has recently issued a series of policies and measures to support pig production in conjunction with relevant departments. First, increase financial subsidies for pig production. In order to further regulate the management of closed areas, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas have conducted investigations on the delineation of closed areas, and sent 20 working groups to carry out centralized supervision in 200 pig breeding counties. Good recovery in pig production

Data show that the basic production capacity of pigs is continuing to recover. In December 2019, the nationwide breeding sow stock increased by 2.2% month-on-month, and increased for the third consecutive month. The output of pig feed increased by 2% month-on-month in December, increasing for 4 consecutive months. Among them, the sow feed increased significantly by 10%, indicating that the basic production capacity of hogs in the country is actively recovering.

Monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas has shown that the capacity of large-scale pig farms is recovering faster. In December 2019, live pigs and breeding sows in pig farms with an annual production volume of more than 5,000 pigs nationwide increased by 2.7% and 3.4% from the previous month, both of which increased for 4 consecutive months. Yu Kangzhen said that from the perspective of production and supply, pig production continued to maintain a good momentum of recovery and development. Some pig farms started to sell the fattened pigs. Before the Spring Festival, the market supply of fat pigs increased significantly. Monitoring data show that the number of pigs slaughtered in December 2019 increased by 14.1% compared with November, which is completely different from the situation in which the number of pigs slaughtered continued to decline from August to November. Judging from the consumption monitoring data, the pork retail transaction volume in the bazaar market increased by 11.7% month-on-month in December. The growth rate of supply is higher than the growth rate of consumer demand, and the contradiction between supply and demand of pork has eased.

"The weight of fattening pigs in the market in December has increased significantly, indicating that there are too many big pigs currently in the pen. " Yu Kangzhen said.

According to reports, since 2019, cattle and sheep and poultry farming have benefited well, farmers are very enthusiastic about production, and cattle and mutton, poultry, eggs and milk production have increased in an all-round way. According to the monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the annual increase in poultry meat output in 2019 is more than 15%, with an increase of about 3 million tons. Among them, broiler slaughtering year-on-year growth of 13.2%. In response to the severe and complicated situation of African swine fever prevention and control, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has recently strengthened monitoring, investigation, reporting, and disposal to organize African swine fever prevention and control and rehabilitation for all breeding farmers and animal epidemic prevention personnel in the country. In order to ensure the quality and safety of pork, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs conducted a large-scale inspection of pig slaughtering links nationwide. Yang Zhenhai said that the big inspection has achieved full coverage of all pig slaughtering enterprises without leaving dead ends. According to the production scale of slaughtering enterprises, the provincial, municipal and county-level agricultural and rural departments shall inspect them separately.
